Yorktown police bust local drug dealer

Yorktown police said they’ve arrested a drug dealer who has been responsible for supplying most of the Shrub Oak and Jefferson Valley areas with cocaine and heroin.
John T. Fierro, 22, of Shrub Oak, was arrested Nov. 7 and charged with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, both class B felonies. He was also charged with one count of second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class A felony.

Police said that during the course of three undercover drug sales over a period of five months, they were able to buy one-and-a-half ounces of cocaine. A subsequent investigation yielded 42 more grams of the drug.

“We were alerted to him as a steady supplier to young adults,” said Lt. Robert Noble of the Yorktown police.

The street value of all the drugs sold and recovered was estimated to be between $3,000 and $5,000.

Yorktown police were aided in their investigation by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.

“With the continued assistance of Public Safety, we will continue to aggressively apprehend and prosecute drug dealers in this town,” Noble said. “We [took] a steady supplier off the streets.”

Noble said police have seen an increase in cocaine and heroin use among young people.
“[Fierro’s arrest] brings to light that parents have to know it’s not just marijuana out there,” Noble said.

Leo Sposato, Yorktown Central School District’s director of communications, said that the district is trying to combat drug use by offering students a variety of alternatives.
“Everybody knows that drugs and alcohol are out there,” Sposato said. “We try to offer our kids many options that allow them to make good decisions.”
