Nina Planamenta marks 60 years of employment at Maryknoll.
Nina Planamenta, a native of Ossining, celebrated her 60th anniversary of employment with Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers this summer.
Since 1974, she has served as administrative assistant to the last six superiors general of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, the Catholic foreign mission organization headquartered in Ossining. She began her career immediately after graduating from Ossining High School in 1948.
She was honored by the current superior general, Father John Sivalon, M.M., at a party this past June, marking her service at Maryknoll and attended by fellow employees and the many society members with whom she has served over this long and dedicated career.
“Nina’s loyalty to each of us has been astounding, said Father Sivalon. “She has an institutional memory that allows you to do your job better, and she is so encouraging.”
Planamenta has seen many changes over the years, but notes that one thing has not changed.
“Maryknollers totally give of themselves to those in need,” she said. “I just do my part to help them. I would never have wanted to work anywhere else.”
Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, the U.S.-based Catholic foreign mission society, has been representing U.S. Catholics in overseas mission since 1911. They currently serve in 28 countries worldwide, promoting human rights and social justice. For more information, visit www.maryknoll.org/society.
